Lagos Sales Representative Faces N498,255 Theft Charge.
A 35-year-old sales representative, Hakeem Fadugba ,who allegedly stole his employer’s cartons of beer and soft drinks valued at N 498,255 was on Wednesday in Lagos granted a N100,000 bail. An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, which gave the ruling, also asked the accused to produce two sureties as part of the bail conditions.
The Magistrate, T.O. Shomade, said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government. Fadugba, who resides at No. 10, Araromi St., Bariga, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing. Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offences in March at Funky Stores Nigeria Ltd, in Lagos. He said that the accused collected 111 cartons of different brands of beer and 34 cartons of soft drinks that he would sell and remit the money to his employer. Akeem said the accused paid N51, 950 into the company’s account and converted a balance of N498, 255 to his personal use. “When the complainant discovered that the accused only paid N51, 950 into the company’s account, he confronted him but he kept giving excuses for not paying everything at once,’’ he said. The offence contravened Sections 285 and 313 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders. The magistrate adjourned the case to Dec. 14, for mention.
